Bitcoin for Marcy's residents: a philanthropic initiative
The philanthropic initiative helped educate Marcy's residents about Bitcoin and how to use it.
The Bitcoin Academy, Jack Dorsey and Jay Z's Bitcoin education program, has completed its first iteration. The program was designed to educate people about Bitcoin and its potential implications for the future.
The airdrop initiative was a success, with all participants opting to receive a grant of $1000 in Bitcoin. This allowed the participants to gain real-world experience with using and managing cryptocurrency. Overall, the airdrop was a success and helped to promote Bitcoin adoption.
Jack and Jay Z's Parting Gift: A New Song
This is an amazing story! Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey have personally funded a program that has helped over 350 Marcy residents receive airdrops of Bitcoin. This is a great example of how two people with means can use their resources to help others. We hope to see more stories like this in the future!
“Marcy residents showed up,” she said. “What also matters is providing the necessary resources such as dinner, childcare, devices, internet access, dedicated staff and instructors so that as many people as possible could participate in person and online.”
The Bitcoin Academy was announced in early June as an in-person program for delivering Bitcoin education and resources to the residents of Marcy Houses, New York – where Jay Z grew up. It lasted from June 22nd until September 7th. The program was a success, with residents learning about Bitcoin and how to use it. The Academy plans to continue delivering these services to other communities in need.
The organizers of the Bitcoin giveaway were transparent about the rewards participants would receive, which included free MiFi devices, one-year data plans, and smartphones. However, the Bitcoin gift was a last-minute surprise. Despite this, the program still enticed certain residents to attend due to the other benefits it provided, such as free childcare.
The Program Taught Us a Lot
It's great to see that the city of Marcy is hosting a Crypto Convention to educate its residents about the benefits of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. The courses offered cover a range of topics that are important for anyone looking to get involved in the space, from wealth building and asset management, to staying safe from scammers. It's encouraging to see that Marcy is taking a proactive approach to integrating these innovative technologies into its community.
“A lot of times, the information doesn’t get to our community,” explained Lamar Wilson, an Academy instructor and founder of Black Bitcoin Billionaire. “Not because people are being intentionally discriminatory, it’s because they’re not being intentional about getting the information there.”
As he noted, many of the residents were able to understand even complex and technical concepts like Bitcoin mining once they were explained to them. They were also taught about how Bitcoin can be used as a tool for building "generational wealth," which resonated with many attendees. This is a great way to get people interested in and educated about Bitcoin. It is important to not only teach people about the technical aspects of Bitcoin, but also about how it can be used to help build wealth. Hopefully, this will inspire more people to get involved with Bitcoin and help grow the community.
Wilson sees Bitcoin as a way for oppressed groups to keep their wealth from being taken away. Mariela Regalado, a resident of Marcy, sees it as a way to secure her daughter's financial future.
“I’m stacking stacks for her, and I probably wasn’t gonna be able to say that back in June before the Academy, but now I can, because now I know what all that means,” she said.
Both Wilson and Regalado stressed that students of the academy were in no way pressured to buy or trade Bitcoin but were simply educated on it. "It always felt like we're at a family dinner, and like that cousin that discovered Bitcoin is telling everybody else about it," said Regalado. As Bitcoin becomes more mainstream, it's important that young people are educated about it. Wilson and Regalado's academy is doing just that, teaching students about Bitcoin in a pressure-free environment.
As the world's leading cryptocurrency continues to grow in popularity, more and more people are looking for ways to get involved. One way to do so is through Bitcoin Academy, which offers attendees the opportunity to learn about the digital currency and earn $1000 in BTC.
